10 years Locversary

December 1st 2007 I came to the life altering decision to loc my hair. I say life altering because I am dark skin and of Hispanic decent and dreads (locs) are frowned upon. My family wasn't very supportive during the early stages of my locs journey but I stood my ground! 10 years later everyone loves my locs and keep asking me is it all mine....Yes! Yes it is all mine!
So now it's a lot of different changes that I'm still getting used to, as far as length...styling and trying to sleep with longer hair has definitely been an adjustment.
I decided to dye my locs and lighten up my roots, so I'm using Dark and Lovely Intensive Red. I usually need 4 bottles for all of my locs but I only had 2 boxes so I decided since my locs are a dark brown, I'll lighten the front and leave the back alone.

This is my hair color before I transformed.......

This is after I dyed it, braided the front and curled the back.
The front turned out a little lighter than expected...ok, ok, I got distracted and lost track of time...still like it though LOL

Here I decided to braid my locs for a braid out (with a few added accessories 😃)

Stay tuned... now that my wedding is getting closer, I'm going to be posting a lot more.

PEACE AND BLESSINGS!

November 2014 loc treatment

*DISCLAIMER: What may work for me, may not work for you. I'm just documenting my own journey*

This month I decided not to interlock my new growth to give my loc a a rest until the Christmas/New Year's season.

I bought some Carol's Daughter products that I've used in the past that has worked for my hair texture.

So I purchased the Black Vanilla trio...sulfate free shampoo, hair smoothie, and leave conditioner. I washed my hair with the shampoo twice which left my locs feeling super soft. Afterwards, I applied the hair smoothie and put a plastic shower cap over my locs and wrapped it all up in a scarf for a few hours. I don't like applying heat to my hair unless it is absolutely necessary.  After rinsing out the hair smoothie, I then started smoothing some Mimosa Hair honey from my scalp to the ends of my locs as I gently retwisted the new growth.

One thing I can say, I've been using Carol's Daughter products since she opened in 1993 selling her items in mason jars and the quality is the same now as it was back then. Absolutely amazing! All of the items I used softened my hair texture so it doesn't feel dry and crunchy.

Aug-Sept 2014 Loc treatment and maintenance

Hello all!!! I know it's been a while but I've been so busy lately that I really haven't had time to post. So here we go! (disclaimer: what may work for me, may not work for you)

I started with the Dr. Bronner's Magic Soap 18-n-1 Hemp Lavender Pure-Castile Soap as a shampoo which makes my locs feel soft and juicy.

Then I applied Dr. Miracle's Super Deep Conditioner (2 packets because my locs are long), put a plastic cap on then wrapped in a head scarf to sit under the dryer for 30 mins....

I love to feel the tingle of this conditioner. Once it stops tingling, then that's my que to rinse it out.
Once I rinsed out my conditioner...the task of interlocking my new growth.........

If you do not have the skill and patience to interlock your own locs, please get it done by a professional. You can seriously damage your locs if you don't really know what you're doing.

After I interlocked my locs, I just left my hair loose because my scalp was a little tender from the maintenance. It wasn't really tight but since I don't manipulate my scalp with styles as much as I used to, any time I maintain my new growth, my scalp feels tender.

As a moisturizer I used Cantu Shea Butter for Natural Hair Coconut Curling Cream. I know you're probably asking...why I'm using a curling cream if I don't have loose hair...to be honest....I love the smell of it and it leaves my locs really soft.

 And for the end results....

Peace and Blessings!!!

1. Buttafly's Ashy lil Feet Kit4oz Ashy Feet Scrub, 2oz Ashy Feet Butter
The Ashy feet Scrub used in the shower and it removed layers of dry skin leaving my feet nice and smooth.
The Ashy feet butter makes my feet feel like I just came from the nail salon getting a pedicure. Nice and smooth as well as moisturized. Love it!!!
2. Buttafly Cute lil Face KitButtafly's Cute lil Face WashButtafly's Cute lil Hydrating Face CreamCute lil Face Scrub, Suga Suga lip scrub, Lip Butter.
Buttafly's Cute lil Face Wash- I use it everyday (once in the morning and once at night) leaving my face moisturized and feeling refreshed. It's also clearing up my skin. Everyone tells me that my face looks a lot brighter than it used to be.
Buttafly's Cute lil Hydrating Face Cream- Once I wash my face I would apply the face cream and in this cold weather, it keeps my face moisturized and feeling wonderful.
Cute lil Face Scrub- I use it 2-3 times a week to scrub my face. Leaving my face nice and smooth and feeling oh so soft.
Suga Suga lip scrub- The cold weather makes my lips peel more than they do any other time in the year so whenever I feel my lips too dry, I use the lip scrub to peel the dead layer of skin off and soften my lips leaving them nice and supple. As much as I try not to taste it, it actually tastes sweet :)
Lip Butter- I use it everyday to soften my lips.
3. Buttafly's Cute lil Face Mask- I apply the mask on my face before getting in the shower once a week. Once I rinse it off, my skin feels brand new.
Buttafly's Hair and Body Jaloe - It's like a lotion for your hair and body, I use it for my hair as well as lotion at work for my hands. My hands get extra dry after I wash them so I use it to moisturize my hands. I hate having dry hands! This Jaloe works beautifully.
Buttafly's Bath Body and Hair Oil - One of my favorite items out of the whole package. It greases my scalp and softens my locs and when I get out of the shower, I use it on my body before drying off. Leave my skin soft and smelling awesome.
Buttafly's Juicy Locs Loc and Scalp Refresher- whenever my scalp feels dry or starts to itch, I spray the Loc and scalp refresher on my scalp and it feels so relieved.
Buttafly's Body Butter- I use this butter to retwist my locs and when I interlock my new growth. I also use it on my body when I need some serious moisture.
Buttafly's Hair and Body Wash - The best thing since liquid soap!!! I use it as shampoo and I use it as a body wash. My locs love love love this wash! and I don't need to use much to cleanse my hair. As a body wash, it feels and smells so good. I had 2 scents Berrylicious and Tropical Spice, it has my body and bathroom smelling oh so delicious!!!!
Buttafly's Gourmet Suga Scrub - Yeah Yeah Yeah!!! Awesome!!! I use it once a week to smooth out my skin and it feels amazing! Love it!!!!
Buttafly's Touches Perfume Oil - Tropical Spice scent has been a hit everywhere I go. Everyone tells me it smells soooo!
Fizzy Lifting Bath Potion - The one thing out of the entire package that I have not tried yet but I plan on trying it real soon.
I absolutely recommend every item that Buttafly Jonez sells. Her products are amazing and worth every penny!!!

Wash and set 7/28/13

*Disclaimer...what may work for me, may not work for everyone. I just share my experience with my locs to document my journey. I hope you enjoy! Peace and Blessings*

Today I shampooed my locs with Renpure Originals Argan Oil Luxurious Shampoo. I'm only using this stuff until I get my Buttafly Jonez products because I enjoy her products a lot more. This shampoo tends to clean my locs really well but leaves them feeling hard.
After my shampoo, I applied Hollywood Beauty Tea Tree Cholesterol with Shea Butter and Aloe to soften my locs a bit. I left it in for about 30 mins then rinsed thoroughly.

Once I rinsed out the Cholesterol, I then applied Carol's Daughter Hair milk pudding from roots to tip
As additional moisturizer I also greased my scalp with Mega Care Grape Seed Oil. The tube says it provides the hair and scalp with an abundance of rich minerals and so it does!! With an awesome scent :)

Then I decided to curl my locs with pipe cleaners and do some braid twists in the front (since I don't like my hair to fall in my face...I braided it to my ears and curls the rest. Thanks to my mom for helping me curl the back)

Now I'm doing the one thing that I despise the most.....sitting under the dryer LOL
Once I'm done with the dryer, I may decide to sleep with the pipe cleaners or take them out...we will see :)
I'll take pics and post the finished results tomorrow.

Thanks for stopping by my blog :) Feel free to comment and tell a friend!!

Peace and Blessings!!!

Chestnut Henna Color

I love the way my color turned out. Didn't want to so anything drastic so I just did a chestnut to even out my color.

Henna hair color and deep conditioner for July 2013

*Disclaimer* What may work for me, may not work for you but I like to tell people what I do to my hair because it may help someone in the future.

I decided to try the Colora Henna powder to dye my locs a chestnut color. I didn't want to do anything to drastic this summer, just wanted to even out my existing color a bit.

All natural Henna Powder in Chestnut
Mixed Henna powder with water and stirred....
Applied to my locs and sat under the dryer for about 30 mins then left it in for 30 more mins.
This is what my locs looked like once I rinsed out the Henna...not much of a difference to me yet but we'll see in the morning.

After I shampooed the Henna out of my hair, I used Tea Tree Cholestrol as a deep conditioner and sat under the dryer for about 30 mins...If you've read my blogs before, you know that I am not a fan of the hair dryer but since it was late in the day I decided to utilize the dryer to achieve my results faster...

I love Cholestrol in my hair...it leaves it so soft.

Once I rinsed the Cholestrol out of my locs...this is what they looked like wet. Since I refuse to sit under the dryer for a 3rd time tonight...I decided to towel and air dry my locs. I will post pics tomorrow once my hair is dry to see if I can see a difference in my color. I will however oil my scalp before I go to bed.....stay tuned for updates :)

Peace and Blessings!!

April's Hair Treatment

*Disclaimer: What may work for me may not work for everyone. I'm just sharing my regimen to document my personal journey.

I decided to do my ACV treatment for the first time this year. Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV), Baking Soda, Lemon juice(half of a lemon), a touch of salt and water. Soaked my locs for about 20 mins running the mix through my hair repeatedly.
I squeezed the excess out of my hair then thoroughly rinsed my hair until the water ran clear.
Then I took some honey, lemon, my oil mixture, an egg yoke, and some mayonnaise and applied it to my locs as a deep conditioner. I then put my locs in a shower cap and wrapped a towel around my head to retain the heat so I didn't have to sit under a dryer.
I'm leaving the conditioner in for about 2 hrs then thoroughly rinsing my hair until the water runs clear. I'm going to shampoo my locs with the Earthbalisms Lavender Lemongrass Teapoo bar, apply my oil mixture to my locs then interlock the new growth with Shea butter.
Pics coming soon

Peace and Blessings!!

February loc treatment and style

Hello good people!!!

Here is my February treatment and style.

Shampooed my locs with Creme of Nature Argan Oil Moisture and Shine Shampoo
Conditioned with Cantu Shea Butter Leave In Conditioning Treatment
Since I interlocked my new growth last month, there was no need for a re-twist so I used Shea Butter to braid my locs for a braid out.
Here are my results as of today:

I will be posting pics after I take the braids down and may post a few styles as well.
Stay tuned....

Peace and Blessings!!!
